Does a glass ceiling exist in PR blogging?
I just read a post by Valeria Maltoni (Conversation Agent — she also writes for the Fast Company Expert blog and MarketingProfs’ DailyFix) that points to yet another PR blog ranking list – The 20 PR PowerWomen. It’s actually not its own ranking, but rather a sub-list that Kami Huyse (Communication Overtones) created from ToddAnd’s Power150 list.
According to Kami, only 12 percent of the top 50 PR bloggers are women, and only 13 percent of the Power150 bloggers are women. So, she pulled those 20 blogs out into their own list to highlight and promote them. I’m not usually a fan of men vs. women lists, but this caught my eye because my personal experience in PR says that women outnumber men. So I was really surprised that within the PR blogging world, women don’t have a larger presence.
Valeria added to Kami’s list, and created what she calls the W-List – a compilation of the PR/marketing blogs owned by women. I’d say I regularly read about half of them. I’ve been clicking around the new-to-me sites, and while I’ve hit a few that aren’t as relevant to me, for the most part I’ve found them interesting (I just added another 10 feeds to my reader).
So, for your end-of-the-summer reading list, below you’ll find the complete (and growing) W-List from Valeria and Kami. I even added a few of my own suggestions to the end. Do you have any of your own favorites to add?

You see…there is some fantastic talent out there. Valeria did a great job in getting this list out there – I have found a whole new set of talent. The only trouble is how big my google reader is becoming!!

Kari,
Thank you for the shout and link. Of course, many of the additional blogs are not strictly about marketing, even though one could say that we all market all the time ;-)
One suggestion to get to know some of these talented writers might be to think together. I am planning some conversations at my blog… working together is a fun way to connect.

Kari, thank you for continuing this conversation and promoting so many talented women bloggers. It’s an honor to be included!

Kari, not only is it a personal honor to be included, but what really thrills me is that what it says about our industry that a blog about measuring effectiveness (traditionally that really boring part of any PR pitch) is now sexy enough to be included.

Thanks for the mention too. I was not surprised that there were so few women bloggers mentioned in the Ad Age 150. There are fewer then 10 female Fortune 500 CEOs too. However, you are right that there is a lot of great work in the blogsphere being created by women. I am proud to be included in the lot.

Great to see this list grow! I’m glad it has successfully gone viral. I can hardly keep up with all the new additions. . . my RSS reader is burgeoning! It looks like there may be more women blogging than we knew.

Thanks for keeping this going, Kari. It is great to see all the blogs that are being added. You rock!
