Kari Myth #1: Internal PR people aren’t as busy
I’ve got to admit, I often thought that the life of juggling multiple clients, employees and new business opportunities made life busier for agency PR folks. Agency PR people have to embrace multi-tasking, often switching from industry to industry, company to company. It’s challenging for sure, but that environment keeps things interesting and “new.” There are also teams in place to help divide and conquer.
Internally, you have the benefit of focusing on a single company and really getting to understand its market drivers. It’s nice to be able to really “dig” into a single entity and be creative. At the same time, there are just as many demands from internal “clients” that need to be done yesterday. I’m not saying life as an internal PR person is busier, but it’s a lot busier than I expected. I wouldn’t say one’s better than the other – they’re just very different.

This makes sense. I’d imagine the shift in mindset of PR as the business to PR as a supporting function of the business would impact this a lot. Your thoughts?
